First, decide who you would be. Then, do what you must do.

stoicism

Stoicism is a school of philosophy, the founding of which is associated with Zeno of Citium, It teaches that self-control, fortitude and detachment from distracting emotions, sometimes interpreted as an indifference to pleasure or pain, allows one to become a clear thinker, level-headed and unbiased. A primary goal of Stoicism was to improve the individual’s spiritual well-being. Virtue, reason, and natural law are prime directives. By mastering passions and emotions, Stoics believe it is possible to overcome the discord of the outside world and find peace within oneself.

[To make any kind of gain in life - a gain of wealth, personal stature, whateveryou define as "gain" - you must place some of your material and/or emotional capital at risk. You must make a commitment of money, time, love, something. That is the law of the universe. Except by blind chance, it cannot be circumvented. No creature on earth is excused from obedience to this pitiless law. To become a butterfly, a caterpillar must grow fat; and to grow fat, it must venture out where birds are. There are no appeals. It is the law.]
- Max Gunther 'The Zurich Axioms'

Modern psychology would have us believe that the ideal is to have a tranquil stress free existance. On some budhist, tao, ish. I'm all about finding one's balance. I represent the O. But this whole idea of worry being something you should avoid is flawed. Worry is not the sickness modern psychology makes it out to be. Worry is the berbere/tobasco of life.

embrace it.

pursuit of cakeyness: serendipity

ser·en·dip·i·ty (sĕr'ən-dĭp'ĭ-tē) pronunciation
n., pl. -ties.
  1. The faculty of making fortunate discoveries by accident.
  2. The fact or occurrence of such discoveries.
  3. An instance of making such a discovery.

[From the characters in the Persian fairy tale The Three Princes of Serendip, who made such discoveries, from Persian Sarandīp, Sri Lanka, from Arabic sarandīb.]

you ever feel like the stars are aligning in your favour. you ever feel like someone above is looking out for your interests? Lauryn Hill said something about having children that I will never forget it was something to the effect of Children empower you and humble you at the same time. i think that's the way i feel right now. empowered, confident yet at the same time ultimately humbled by the process i've gone thru.

"If Heaven was a mile away
And you could ride by the gates
Would you try to run inside when it opens would you try to die today?
Would you pray louder finally believing His power?
Even if you couldn't see, but you could feel would you still doubt him?"

used to be

she used to be my girl

she used to be down with me
she used to be a freak for me

We used to hold hands
she used to understand
she used to get down with me
she used to take trips with me
she used to wiggle her hips for me
she used to lick her lips for me
she used to
she used to
she used to
she used to

nostalgia...

is a terrible disease. it engulfs you. and gives meaning to certain moments. obsessions

so what is it about nostalgia that we are seduced with ? is it the obvious irrecoverable nature of the past that hightens the emotional impact. is it the inaccessibility that turns us ON.

my homeboy doc brown is working on the whole accesible thing-->

i guess being aware of the powers of nostalgia. is the first step towards recovery. looking back at moments that are locked in our heads.  you understand how the mind embeleshes moments. and so begins the questions

was the shoulder of my late mother really the most comfortable place i've ever laid my head?

was the sky as dark as i remembered on the day of her burial?

was hiphop really as good as it was in the mid 90s?

did the lips of a lost lover taste as sweet as they did a few years ago?

(it's the questions yall)

nostalgia makes the idealized past into something tangible almost authentic. and for no other reason then the geto boys song 'mind playing tricks on me' is this a dangerous game.

When you think back, you thought that
you would never make it this far, then you
take advantage of the luck you handed
Or the talent, you been given
Ain't no, half steppin, ain't no, no slippin
